I’m Michelle Curtis.

I work for NE Tech Air.

We are based out of Scarborough, Maine.

We specialize in sheet metal as well as miscellaneous metal packages for large commercial construction projects.

Our specialty is really in the healthcare and lab space.

The biggest obstacle in the construction industry is with manpower.

So finding qualified help to work on the projects that we need has been an issue for us since we were started in 1986 and retaining those employees is equally as hard.

So you have to stay relevant and today’s environment is much different than when we first started.

So we were having a lot of difficulty in getting employees through the door and then staying for long periods of time.

I would tell you that our upper management structure has a lot of tenure to it, but getting people invigorated about the trades in general has been difficult.

So what we found is that we needed to change our culture to accommodate the younger generations.

And so that’s why we sought out Core Matters and Ryan’s team.

After doing some searching, we found Ryan and Core Matters. And what we found was that we thought that their company could help us with the struggles that we were having.

Initially, what we thought was just going to be for helping us find better candidates. What it actually ended up being was something much more than that. He’s actually helped us restructure our entire company.

He really took it from initially just starting with us to find better candidates and help us with our hiring processes, onboarding, and all those things, and really sort of expanded so that the whole company is being affected by it to this day.

The managers were always having a difficult time having those tough talks with people.

So Ryan laid out a path for us to be able to create a structure that gave the managers the tools to be able to go to those employees and say, these are the issues, these are the violations of our policies.

And then it became a very clear conversation on both sides that this was our expectation because it’s our corporate policy and this is how you violated it.

So those tough talks have really become much more easy for everybody to get through and there’s clear expectations from both sides.

Working with Ryan has been amazing. I sometimes refer to it as my bi-monthly therapy sessions. We cover a lot of stuff in those meetings. He’s got a very good, clear, concise plan. He keeps us on task, which is very important because we have a thousand balls in the air every single day. Super responsive. His team is amazing. And it’s just been a pure pleasure since day one.

We’ve been very, very lucky that we found them and that they’ve helped us in the way that they help.
