“I can’t recommend Core Matters enough for anybody that is struggling to hire.”

– Josh Zolin

I’m Josh Zolin, the CEO of Windy City Equipment Service, or W. C. E for short. We specialize in repairing, maintaining, selling, and installing commercial, HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.

Our business is starting to grow faster than we can find talent that we can find help. We reached out to Ryan at Core Matters, at a Vistage meeting for CEO’s locally because we needed help with our recruitment.

How do we become the employer of choice, and how do we retain the talent that we do have, to make sure that we’re not this revolving door of skilled tradespeople, and actually capture that talent to continue to grow and move forward? So very common for service technicians, in particular, to leave one company and go to another company for 25 cents, 50 cents, a dollar more. They don’t immediately think “Hey, this company probably has a wonderful culture”. They probably think, “Hey, you know, this is a company that I can be employed at until I find a company that will give me more money”.

That’s why we reached out to Ryan at Core Matters, to help solidify the culture of the company. When he first unveiled his strategies on how to attract passive job seekers and integrate recruitment into our actual marketing process, I was hooked.

First and foremost, he introduced me to what’s called an applicant tracking system, but also shored up our process with writing the job ads, and then improving the overall employee experience, right? Which is part of this recruitment process and part of their attainment process. So once we did all that we moved forward to the interview process. So the quality of our applicants actually has gone up considerably.

Ryan helped me with creating this culture. HVACR

I had values in the past, but they were kind of just words. He really helped me turn those into expressions. Something that the entire company, my leadership team, and my frontline could relate to alike. Then we worked on a purpose statement and a vision statement and a story, and you put all of this together and start marketing towards recruitment. That’s what we’ve done here at Windy City.

I can’t recommend Core Matters enough for anybody that is having any kind of hiring struggles or retainment struggles, or anything of the like. I was able to improve myself, improve my company, and continue to learn and drive toward success.
